Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter for WPDE-TV. She later became a morning news anchor and crime report at WCBD TV. O'Dell's stories in Charleston about the police's leniency regarding DUI cases, prompted the State Law Enforcement Division to look into the matter. The result was states authorities enforcing more rigorous rules in these instances. In the year 2000, Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell her Best Report of the year award for all South Carolina media. O'Dell's experience in Charleston was the reason she joined as co-anchor and investigative reporter and NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Before joining Access Hollywood she was a co-anchor on weekdays as well as NBC's weekend co-anchor. She also works as co-anchor for Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She has covered major events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. In addition to co-hosting Pre-ShowArrivals for The Emmys & The Golden Globes.
